St James Cathedral Evicts Occupy Toronto from Church Lands

Occupy Toronto protesters received eviction orders on November 21, 2011 after a court ruling upheld the decision of the City of Toronto to move them from St. James Park. Part of this land is owned by St James Cathedral, documents obtained from Toronto Media Co-op reveal, making the Church complicit in this eviction.

Cape Town Opera plays Tel Aviv amid calls to boycott

The Cape Town Opera performed Porgy and Bess in Tel Aviv, Israel in November 2010. On opening night a group of Israeli Peace activists held a flash mob outside the opera house, calling on the performers to boycott Israel. That same night a group of settlers protested the boycott of a new cultural center in Ariel.

For over 100 years, native children in Canada were taken from their homes at the age of 6, and put into residential schools. Away from their reserves and their families, the government became their guardian. The largest class action settlement in Canada is issuing payments to survivors of these schools. But not everybody took the money. Follow Audrey Redman, on her journey, as she tries to find a way to close this chapter of her life in the documentary Indian Road.

 

 


 Sheikh Jarrah and DAM: Bigger than Hip Hop

Palestinian hip hop group DAM is part of a growing number of local artists speaking out against the displacement of Palestinians from their homes. TDN caught up with MCs Mahmoud Jreri and Tamer Nafar at a benefit concert in the Occupied East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah, on January 15, 2010.

Palestinian-Israeli arrested in Jaffa

Jaffa residents held a peaceful demonstration on March 17 to show their support for Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem. It ended in the arrest of Palestinian-Israeli activist and prominent theater director Samieh Jabbarin.

Israel a year on from the Gaza War

Commemorating last year's war on Gaza and Israel's continued siege, Palestinian citizens of Israel and Israeli solidarity activists took to the streets and sealed borders. Challenging an Israeli public that refuses to consider the humanitarian situation in Gaza and a government intent on extending its attack on Gaza through the crippling siege, Palestinian-Israeli connection with Gazans is deepening. Meanwhile, seeing a war without end, frustrated local activists have turned their attention to calling on international support and participation in protest.
